The cable originating from the power button in my setup is a 5-pin connector. The front panel header on my motherboard features a 9-pin connector. The wire isn't sufficient to connect to the motherboard header. Would you like me to suggest an adapter?

You can purchase male to female Dupont jumper wires. The link is merely to display their appearance; you should compare options and visit local electronics shops. You'll likely need just two if your goal is only to connect the power switch. As shown, they reach up to 30cm, and you could chain them, though this might increase failure points. This works best if the motherboard has standard pins and the connector matches.

The power button consists of two wires, positive and neutral, used to turn power on and off. If the headers differ between the motherboard and the front panel, you may need to rewire each connection yourself. As mentioned before, here are the models for reference so that everyone can review the pinouts and understand how challenging this task would be.

The front panel header features the usual 9-pin configuration.

Can you link the Dell connector to a standard header, or would an adapter be necessary?

I'll search for those wires, yes. From the images, it seems 1 should connect to 6 and 4 to 8.

If that matches your motherboard's connector, then connecting pins 6 and 8 will power up your PC, the sequence is irrelevant as long as both are linked; the switch simply joins both connections, making polarity unimportant.
