What method can be used to enable Hogwarts Legacy on a GTX 770 graphics card?
You just received Hogwarts Legacy. It launches but crashes immediately when the music starts. You're thinking about optimizing your GPU for the game—have you tried using modded drivers or something similar?
Hogwarts Legacy is a highly demanding game with strong performance capabilities. Running it on lower specifications isn't advised, even if the game functions properly, as it won't provide a satisfying experience.
Step 1, buy or construct a new setup.
Step 2, relish the experience
To be honest, the machine noises are quite old, but this game is really tough.
I’d recommend a 3080 or higher for this, preferably a 4070TI or better.
They've released numerous performance updates and recently addressed VRAM memory leaks, allowing the game to run smoothly on the older 3070Ti, even with ray tracing; it used 6GB VRAM at 1080p, and 1440p isn't significantly more demanding. The remaining 2GB VRAM is manageable unless you're targeting 4K. Unless you're using a 770, I wouldn't expect much better performance.
I don't think a GTX 770 has any realistic chance of running Hogwarts Legacy, not just because of its poor performance but also due to inconsistent DirectX12 support. According to TechPowerUp's GPU database, the card was released in May 2013 and uses the GK104 graphics processor. While it does support DirectX 12, the version available is only level 11_0, which may not handle newer titles well. Running such a demanding game would likely result in extremely low frame rates, making it unplayable. Even with modified drivers, achieving the necessary performance for HL would be highly unlikely. Your system is outdated and would require significant upgrades to handle modern high-end games.
It's interesting how a simple world exists where someone with basic equipment can finish downloading a game but struggles to play due to hardware limits, while another person with perfect specs can't because the download fails for them. (Update: frequent patches mean slower internet users often get stuck as updates restart.)
Don't worry, I'm just sharing my opinions about this Hogwarts legacy PC game and its reception.
