Paint Shop Pro 7 Special Edition is compatible with every version of Windows because it meets the necessary system specifications. Even programs from Microsoft like Publisher fall short. The release date was 22 August 2001, and its requirements include a specific processor, memory, storage space, and display capabilities.

Since the Windows API is constantly being updated and refined, thousands of distinct API calls exist. The Win32 API alone is estimated to have between 15,000 and 20,000 calls, but this only represents a portion of the total Windows API functionality. Even individual APIs can evolve due to bug fixes, which may cause compatibility issues with certain software. Many applications continue to rely on fundamental or widely used functions across various Windows versions, requiring developers to conduct extensive testing.

MS is attempting to shift everyone to subscriptions, but this won't function if the software they rely on remains stable. It's really about Microsoft 365 or nothing. According to MS support, Publisher will reach the end of life in October 2026, and you should switch to alternative tools for MS 365. Any outdated MS applications without modern replacements work across all Windows versions.
