What kind of real world diff will there be between DDR4 and DDR5 RAM?
What kind of real world diff will there be between DDR4 and DDR5 RAM?
By the end of next year the updated AM5 connector is expected to launch with DDR5 storage. I’m curious about the practical impact it will have. How did the transition from DDR4 affect performance and compatibility?
It's a little more complicated than "new generation = "x"% increase in "y" statistic", the broad answer is there will likely be a performance increase, there might be a voltage decrease, but as always, it's also going to depend on more factors at play. As the generation matures, it will improve, as has happened with DDR, 2,3, and 4. So far as my knowledge extends, the AM5 socket and it's memory support, nor the release of DDR5 have an official announcement. If both of these hold true, anything anyone is able to provide here will be entirely speculative, perhaps an informed estimate, but speculation none-the-less.
