I'm using Linux Mint and it's been great for me. The laptop has really good internal components, which helps it run smoothly right out of the box. I prefer not to deal with network card setup after installation. Manjaro also worked for me somewhat, but the main problem was that my BIOS was outdated for the OS. After updating, I installed Mint directly and still like some of its graphical tools.

I began with Mint, and after roughly three weeks I moved to Arch and I really enjoy it.

Which driver do you need? I'm using XCFE.

I've always loved Debian-based systems but recently tried CentOS at work and am growing to appreciate Fedora as a desktop option. For Debian, I like Gnome 3 or Cinnamon for a cleaner look.

Check the old gear for a switch from Cinnamon to another distribution. Consider using Cinnamon alongside XFCE on outdated systems. Apply Numix dark theme across both desktop environments.

All options are disappointing, but Slackware is the worst among them.
