It varies from your router. The TG582N you mentioned is likely a bundled device, not separate hardware.
The device in the picture that your ISP supplies resembles a network hub (combining modem, router, switch, and access point... if you also receive WiFi from it). Not every ISP offers gateways; some cable providers only supply modems. What type of internet connection do you have? Regarding its performance compared to your own router... Are you using the TG582N? The TG582N functions as an internet gateway too, but appears designed for DSL connections. It’s an older technology with LAN ports capped at 100Mbps and compatibility for 802.11n WiFi.
It was the router supplied by the ISP. I believe the genexis internet gateway was installed when we relocated some time back.
