Hi, All,
I want to install Windows XP Pro 64 bit in a Virtual Machine. I am running Windows 11 Pro, so Hyper-V is available to me at no cost. Is there VM software that is sufficiently better than Hyper-V to make using it worthwhile?
TIA
Larry

For my VMs, I rely on VirtualBox from Oracle. Unless Hyper-V has been updated recently, it doesn't transmit audio from the guest to the host. That's why I prefer not to use it.

I also rely on VirtualBox to set up Windows and Linux on Linux machines. The process functions excellently and is completely free.

Windows XP doesn't perform well in any new VM; it will run, but you won't be able to use it much due to missing drivers. Also, XP 64 generally offers minimal support and isn't very practical. Why are you seeking the 64-bit version?

Inside an OS, using VirtualBox on bare metal, Proxmox is possible. Hyper-V can be used but ensure VM version is set to 1 for compatibility with older systems. An isolated XP VM remains functional, particularly with Proxmox that supports hardware pass-through for direct management if drivers exist for XP, or even without them, the emulation performs well.
