What is the throughput of a symmetric system?
I'm not sure if I'm missing something fundamental about system performance here, but is it necessary to have a system with equal GPU and RAM throughput? I was considering upgrading when a system could get a GPU with 192gb throughput and 192 ram throughput. I think this would be most feasible when:
1. The 5090 has a 512bit bus and 3000mhz performance, ideally with 24 or 48gb capacity.
2. 12000mhz DDR5 exists in 4x48gb or 2x96gb configurations.
Could any current or upcoming systems achieve this? And would it be beneficial? This would apply to a general-purpose computer with a 7950x or similar future system.
Could the components' boards support such a high bandwidth? Ideally, it would be a dual ultra-wide system for all-round use. Even better, with a future microLED lasting 12 years. But that seems unlikely in the near future.
System RAM and video card VRAM operate separately from each other. System RAM doesn't influence the performance of the video card, and VRAM doesn't impact the CPU's performance. Therefore, comparing specs between them isn't really useful. This is especially true because it's difficult or not practical to do so.
Do you think this could enable using system RAM as additional virtual memory? The Fedoras system cache is currently acting as compressed RAM. Could this be beneficial for desktop or gaming systems in the future? Might such performance matching make a difference if it works?
1987 Amiga systems used system RAM before VRAM, which was a small amount by current standards.
