I'm evaluating my new setup and considering whether 1000W would be preferable to my current 850W selection.
I'm unsure if I'll be overclocking.
Current configuration: NZXT H7 Flow 2024 (Black) with 3 front 120mm fans, rear case fan included. AIO Thermalright Frozen Prizm 360.
CPU: 9800X3D, AM5 Mobo Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX with DDR5, triple M.2, PCIe 5.0, USB 3.2, Wi-Fi 6E.
Memory: 32GB (16x2) Teamgroup AMD Expo DDR5 6000MHz CL30-36-36-76.
GPU: ASUS TUF OC RTX 5080 OC Edition (MSRP $1484).
Power supply options: Super Flower Leadex III ATX 3.1 or 1000W.

Alternatively, you can choose either option, but I’d opt for the higher wattage model to ensure some extra capacity beyond your current setup. The 850W provides you with a 100W buffer, which is definitely beneficial right away. If the cost gap between the two isn’t significant, then it makes sense to go with the higher wattage unit.

The price for a 1000w unit is just $20 higher.
Beyond that, there are no drawbacks.
The psu will draw only the power it needs, not exceeding its maximum.
Additional capacity supports a future upgrade to a more powerful graphics card.
Graphics cards often experience higher power surges than their rated draw, and a more capable psu can manage that better.
A bigger psu runs more smoothly across its operating range.
It will also be quieter during operation.
Finally, you'll skip the uncertainty of choosing a less capable model.
All for $20.

I placed an order for the Super Flower Leadex III platinum PSU on Amazon for $170. I also used a few PSU calculators from Seasonic and others, which recommended a 750W PSU. Corsair suggests an 850W model, and a tier 2 Gigabyte 750W PSU costs $80. Weird 🤔
