Do you think there exists one dependable reference that clearly identifies the quickest web browser, avoiding the influence of sponsored content from sites like Google articles and YouTube?

I'm confused about why so many "independent" sites rank these browsers. Chrome, Edge, and Brave are clearly the leading options for Windows PCs. I don't personally use any of them as my main browsers.

The quickest option seems to be Lynx. Or Links if you need a graphical interface.
However, I don't use those either, since their speed comes from not displaying anything on the page.

People who compare website speeds are similar to those who test GPUs or CPUs, but this is mostly sponsored content. Which sites have been seen? I haven't noticed them much.

In my opinion, the choice of browser doesn't really matter since you can type into any search box and instantly find hundreds of relevant articles. When they first began, there was no broadband and it was extremely slow—you had to sit and wait for the browser to load before you could even start browsing. Some computer magazines mention that certain browsers offer stronger security features than others.

I've consistently used Firefox but have been considering moving to Brave for some time.

When i first started browsing their were no adverts .. or ver few .... then devs put locked margins for ads to sit in snd this now causes problems when printing. You used to be able to make small print really big on screen and your printer would print it at the increased size but because of locked margins you can still look at big print but it wont print big.
I now use snipping tool for the bits i want then paste it into word then expand it and print it , it saves you from using ink on things you dont need to print.

Check if your internet speed matches what you paid for.
Are you employing an ad blocker?
Do you have multiple internet connections?

90% of browser speed depends on internet connection speed, including ping and computer performance, such as disk read/write speed. All browsers store input before showing it. Hardware acceleration works in every browser, and cache settings can be modified.

Seconding
@CountMike
I will include the idea that the browser's speed is probably overshadowed by other activities the host system is handling concurrently. This can lead to higher resource usage and a decline in performance for any browser or app.
