You have a local account on your Windows 10 PC. Upgrading to Windows 11 through settings, updates, and security should allow you to keep your local account if you choose not to use the Microsoft account.

I also made this under Windows 10.
I wasn’t sure where to submit my question.
I have a local account on my Windows 10 PC.
I wish to upgrade to Windows 11.
If I navigate to settings, update and security and proceed from there to upgrade to 11, will Microsoft attempt to require a sign-in with a Microsoft account or can I retain my local account?

You might find these websites useful: They can guide you through the process without confusing you about account types or Microsoft installations. It’s important to remember that upgrading Windows 11 often involves skipping certain steps, especially if you’re using an in-place upgrade method.

I'm not sure, but perhaps? But maybe not. After upgrading, I upgraded to win 11 without using a local account install. At some point, Windows Security reminded me to use my Microsoft account for better security. I did that. Now when I check settings, I notice I can still choose to sign in with a local account if I wish. It might be helpful to know that you could also be allowed to do so, even if you're required to use a Microsoft account during the upgrade to Win 11.

Go here and download the installation assistant.
When the setup begins, it will prompt you to install their PC health check tool to ensure your computer meets the requirements for Windows 11. Run the check after installation and refresh the Windows 11 installer. The process should proceed normally and eventually restart.
Local accounts work without issues. I set up a Surface Pro 6 at work using Windows 10 Pro with a local account, then upgraded to Windows 11 Pro.

Did you need to execute the command prompt and perform a disk partition check? Your drives aren't in GPT format, which prevents TPM activation.

Check the video carefully. Should I cover both drives from MBR to GPT, or only the one for Windows 11 installation? Thanks.
