Agreed. 2.5 ssd drives are affordable enough. Choose a 256gb or 500gb sata ssd and use it. During regular daily use, you won’t notice much difference. Yes, the m.2 format is technically quicker, but in real life the sata ssd will make your old PC feel like a brand new one.
The device lacks an M.2 SSD yet features a compatible port.
This unit is quite alike to the previous one.
Fun fact. I owned an ASUS z97 with an i5 4690 and a (Biostar!) NVMe storage. It ran at 2x2 speeds, delivering around 800 MB/s, which was great overall.
In such a scenario the PCIe connection might not be present at all, meaning it could only support SATA M.2 devices rather than NVMe. Without official motherboard information we cannot confirm its capabilities. If the device were linked via PCIe, Windows would detect the NVMe drive immediately and install drivers automatically, making it accessible only after driver installation. However, if it only supports SATA M.2, you might still be able to boot from it using the appropriate drive.
Gigabyte GA-Z97X lacks an M.2 port. The Gaming 7 offers a bootable slot. I've used both before. I'm still running Linux on the gaming 7 4970k GTX1080 Ti (overpowered) with 32gigs DDR3 memory.
