I own an ASUS TUF FX705DT (2019) laptop and here are its specifications:
CPU: Ryzen 7 3750H
RAM: 16GB DDR4 (though it operates at 2400Mhz instead of the advertised 2666Mhz)
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 (Mobile)
SSD: 256GB M.2 NVMe (main drive)
HDD: 1TB 7200rpm (storage drive)
WiFi card: Realtek 8822BE WiFi 5
I’m considering upgrading one component and am unsure which would be best. Here are my options:
16GB → 32GB
(or)
256GB SSD → 1TB SSD (mainly for coding and important files)
(or)
1TB HDD → 1TB SSD (mainly for games and large files)
(or)
WiFi 5 → WiFi 7 (not my top choice since my router still supports WiFi 5, but if recommended I’d go for it)
I mostly play older AAA games and only touch the newest titles because of their cost. If you have any advice or more details, please let me know, thank you.

Well, do you require additional storage? If yes, I’d replace the 256gb NVMe with a larger drive, as it seems like a more sensible choice given the other specifications. HDD to SSD is uncertain—whether it’s worth it depends on simply adding more space with a bigger M.2 SSD rather than upgrading the existing one. Upgrading the HDD later makes sense since it’s a relatively inexpensive option.

But 32gb of RAM is beneficial if you intend to run memory-intensive applications, such as virtual machines. I often use it for that purpose.

If your only focus is gaming and streaming, stick with the Wi-Fi you already have. If you manage a file server, you might consider it, but you’d also need something else.

Well, do you require additional storage? If yes, I’d replace the 256gb NVMe with a larger drive, as it seems like a more suitable option given the other specifications. HDD to SSD is uncertain—whether it’s worth it depends on simply adding more space with a bigger M.2 SSD rather than upgrading the existing one. Installing it to the M.2 slot now would suffice for games that demand speed, and you can upgrade later when needed.

Having 32gb of RAM is beneficial if you intend to run memory-intensive applications, such as virtual machines. It’s a plus for gaming and streaming platforms like YouTube.

If your usage is mainly for games, browsing, and video content, stick with the existing Wi-Fi setup. If you have a file server, consider upgrading to a router supporting Wi-Fi 6 or 7 for better performance. Wi-Fi 5 should still work adequately, though it may not reach gigabit speeds.

Ultimately, most decisions depend on your specific requirements and preferences, which may differ from yours.

Good luck!

Thank you for the details. After reviewing, it seems upgrading the RAM would be more practical since I frequently experience stuttering with Chrome, VSCode, and Discord (as shown in the high RAM usage chart from Task Manager). I might proceed with the RAM upgrade first.

For storage, the only game requiring fast loading is CS2, while the others are single-player AAA titles where loading times won’t be a major issue. I’ll consider upgrading that later.

Thanks again.
