What is the most effective method to obtain a Toslink port?
I have just built a new pc. I didn't really think about needing an SPDIF port for my computer and didn't pay attention to the motherboard I picked out.
Well now that the pc is set up and I've been hooking stuff up I just realized I didn't have everything I needed (of course...).
I currently use a Shiit modi/magni stack that is connected to my mac mini by USB. I still have a SPDIF port available on the modi I could use for the pc.
What is the best way to do this? I see that there are just simple usb adapters that I could plug into a SPDIF cable but then there is also the route of old school sound cards.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
There might be an SPDIF header on your motherboard. What model and make of your motherboard are you using? If you really need an SPDIF output from the PC, consider replacing the board with one that features TOSLINK SPDIF output or a sound card supporting Coaxial or TOSLINK SPDIF.
Thanks for your message. I just noticed I mentioned the wrong connector. I actually need a TOSLINK adapter. (I changed the topic title)
The back of the board doesn’t show any output. I own an MSI Pro z790-P.
I’m not planning to replace the board right away. Everything is working fine and I prefer avoiding extra work. Just learning the ropes.
I found this adapter on Amazon, but I’m unsure about its performance or sound quality.

I’m open to getting a sound card with the required port, though I’m not sure what’s available now. The drivers for sound blaster seem to have poor reviews.
I chose to order a schiit fulla for my PC at $109, planning to use it for gaming instead. Usually I run an HD6xx on my schiit stack, but I own a set of pc38x for my PS5. For those, I’ll stick with the fulla since they require less power.
For anyone curious, I spent an hour reviewing sound card articles—most were outdated and had poor driver support (check out the Soundblaster Reddit). With the fulla, I can easily move it to a new PC or device without dealing with driver issues.
