Morning all,
For planning purposes, which affordable upgrade would be most beneficial for an RTX 3080 when used solely for ultrawide gaming?
Key components to consider:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
RAM: 32 GB DDR5
Storage: 4TB NVME
Power Supply: To be determined
GPU options: Corsair SF750 or Corsair SF1000 – which one is best for you?
Cooling solutions: Custom loop with Swiftech Apogee Drive II
Display: Curved 49-inch, 240 Hz
Please note: A "worth while" upgrade should be at least 25%.
I plan to build the system as described and only change the GPU if necessary. I believe the RTX 3080’s 10GB VRAM will be the main factor in deciding whether to upgrade to a higher capacity GPU.
For future AAA gaming (16GB, 24GB or more?), I’m unsure yet.
I’ve gathered all relevant details for your suggestion.
No need to ask about budget or specific games at this stage – I haven’t set up the initial build yet.
TIA
Larry

In general, you're likely considering a Radeon RX 9070 or RX9070XT. Keep in mind that the 3080 model performs similarly to the 4070 for estimation purposes. The 9070 offers around 30% better performance and can be purchased for as little as $600, while the 9070XT provides about 45% improvement and costs $670. The price gap roughly matches the performance gap—approximately a 13% speed advantage for the 9070XT compared to the 9070 at 1440p, or a 12% higher cost. The RTX 5070 is another option but delivers only a 20% boost and is available from Walmart for $500, making it the most cost-effective in terms of performance per dollar. Other 5070 models start around $550, which puts their value on par with the 9070XT.
