I built a machine and attached a W10 to it. I plan to use it for several years to record music for my grandchildren or others. I thought I could activate the W10 using a spare digital license, but it was a Dell OEM model and I can't get it to transfer. I checked "Electronic First" options, but they seem too promising. Have anyone purchased keys from that kind of place? Any other ideas? Thanks all.

A basic Google search for "risk of using a grey market product key" shows potential dangers including deactivation of the key, account suspension, exposure to viruses or malware, involvement in illegal activities, and loss of official support or updates. These keys are typically acquired through unethical or unauthorized means like stolen credit card information or regional price differences, which can lead to financial loss or compromised software performance. The moderation team at TH advises against using such sources and recommends obtaining a legitimate key from a trusted provider.

Given that a legitimate Windows license remains effective for ten years or beyond, it appears quite affordable over time.

But wait, the Windows 10 assistance ends in roughly six weeks, and your processor isn't included among the top options for Windows 11 compatibility.

A genuine website may offer you a 10% reduction on the regular price. Steer clear of discount sellers. The items might contain malware or viruses that have been inserted. Or, they could be otherwise tampered with.

It might contain a virus or malware because it is a downloadable key.

I'll wait to find out the 3 year maintenance fee. I don't want a permanent system. Not W10!

You need to wonder how this platform or individual can offer a $100 item for just $10. If it's one person discarding an unused license, that makes sense. But if there are 1,000 of them, you have to consider...How? The possibilities include theft, money laundering, etc.

It might be the download itself that carries the information. I don't understand how a license key could provide any advantage in breaking into a system.
