I have an I5 4460 at 3.40 Ghz and I'm wondering what the maximum overclocking potential is.

The H81 chipset doesn’t allow CPU overclocking. Beyond that, it seems the I5-4460 isn’t recognized as a supported CPU for your board—possibly just an error in the documentation:
https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H...upport-cpu
The I5-4460 offers 4 threads with a passmark of 4953 when all threads are active, and a single-thread rating of 1871. The best upgrade would be the i7-4770K, available around $110 on eBay, featuring 8 threads and a rating of 7148/2142.
After that, you’d need a modern CPU, a new motherboard, and DDR4 RAM.

Since you don't have a k series CPU or a z series motherboard, you won't be able to overclock your CPU.

Could you consider upgrading to a specific CPU with the possibility of overclocking?
