I understand this post is a bit chaotic, but I’m here to help.
I installed my PC around 2014 or 2015 and have only changed the graphics card recently.
My configuration includes:
i5 4690k
8GB DDR3 RAM
GTX 770 upgraded to GTX 1660 Super
Asus Maximus VII Ranger
Corsair RM850

I’ve experienced occasional microstuttering in games like CS:GO, even with solid FPS.
Could increasing RAM help, or is DDR3 no longer sufficient now?
I’m planning to upgrade my CPU, motherboard, and RAM together, but I’m hoping to extend the lifespan until next year.
Earlier this year I considered the i5 12400F, but I didn’t go through with it.

On a side note, my audio setup uses an optical cable to an Astro mixer for 7.1 surround sound.
When choosing a new motherboard to pair with the i5 12400F, should I opt for one with an optical port (they’re costly) or explore alternative audio solutions?
The mixer has an MP3 input, but I worry the sound quality might drop. Should I upgrade or stick with what I have?

Honestly, I’m unsure how to proceed. My CPU only has 4 threads, which might limit performance for newer games.
I’m open to advice on improvements or comparisons—Ryzen vs Intel, what to expect next?

You haven't specified whether you have 2 x 4GB or 1 x 8GB DDR3 RAM installed. If you only have one DIMM, it will perform less efficiently in Single Channel mode. Adding another DIMM will improve Dual Channel performance, provided the RAM is placed in the appropriate slot.

All my DDR3 systems currently have at least 16GB RAM, offering ample space for most applications. You might want to verify the available Free RAM and Reserved RAM with an 8GB setup, but I believe an additional 8GB would be advantageous.

In the future, I might think about constructing a new machine, based on available funds.

Yes, a new build is the best option. Where are you located and what is your budget?

I can manage with a fresh motherboard, CPU, and RAM while keeping my PSU, GPU, HDD, and SSD intact. Living in Finland makes parts costly, but a GPU upgrade can be considered later if needed. Earlier this year I looked into an i5 12400f and an i5 13400f both seem suitable. My progress with motherboard and RAM choices is still limited. I’m not sure if a mobile graphics card with optical audio is necessary for my Gen2 Astro A40s and Mixamp setup. From what I’ve heard, older models require optical for stereo audio via USB only; if true, the cheapest optical-compatible board was an ASUS TUF Gaming B660M Plus D4 around 180e. Since I don’t need much from a motherboard, this option seems quite pricey. I’m not planning WIFI and the F chips can’t be overclocked, so I won’t upgrade RAM either, and I don’t use an NVMe drive. Two 8GB modules should be enough. Regarding your question to Misgar, I’m currently using a 2x4GB configuration.

I’m trying to minimize expenses as I’m just starting university and have limited funds.

I believe my existing PSU is still adequate because it’s modular, and after checking, it’s an RM750. The next priority would be replacing the GPU, which I can delay until next year to avoid future bottlenecks with my CPU choice. Would you recommend this build? Should I consider a Ryzen processor instead? I’m okay playing games at medium settings rather than ultra. What RAM type would you suggest?
