You're testing different memory configurations on your Intel i5-10400 with 12 GB RAM and a GTX 1650. Adjusting the initial RAM size to 1.5x and max to 3x will likely improve stability and performance, especially in gaming, by reducing paging overhead. The automatic paging file management should handle most needs, but manually setting sizes can help optimize usage.

Generally, swap allows your computer to transfer data from RAM to disk when memory is low. This frees up more RAM for active programs. The required swap space relies on available RAM and background processes that aren't using much memory. If RAM runs out, performance drops sharply and the system becomes unusable. To avoid this, increase RAM if possible. For optimization, set swap to a sufficiently large fixed size instead of letting it auto-adjust. This stops the page file from expanding during intense tasks like gaming, preventing sudden performance drops.

I remember the first time virtual memory became important for games—it was when a Windows 9x title needed 4GB of swap space. At the time, it only used 4MB, but Windows XP and later misread the swap size. So, just leave it on auto; it works fine.
