The 7900x uses a different socket, but the 6950x offers the top performance among x99 CPUs. Regarding how a Ryzen 2600 performs in games.

It's uncertain if it's the absolute best, but a budget option could be E5 2667 v3. The performance isn't terrible, and there are many cores available. It's not very costly on eBay right now. Likely delivers comparable or better results than the first-gen Ryzen.
