i have always port forwarded a number of ports for xbox live through my router, here is a link of the common ones: https://portforward.com/xbox-live/ afaik, this is mainly to help get your nat type to open, i don't know that it will help with speeds. you can also set your xbox to dmz in your router, bad idea on pc, should be fine for console though.
