You can attend school without paying. Private or small schools often offer free access through portals that provide software like Office 2013.

You're currently using OpenOffice until 365, and that will end soon.

WPS office is amazing. http://www.wps.com/ Unfortunately, they don't currently support OS X if that's what you're running. To me Libreoffice and Openoffice always feel a bit unpolished, and sometimes have issues if you have to trade files with someone who uses MS office. I do use both Libreoffice (OS X) and WPS (Windows/Linux) on at least a weekly basis and greatly prefer WPS.

I've tried WPS, Libre, and Calligra Office. I believe WPS is among the better options, though I prefer Libre.

WPS office works well with Microsoft products, while LibreOffice stands out as a genuine open-source solution without restrictions similar to WPS.

OpenOffice is popular among users, though I haven't explored it myself. People seem to praise it too.

It doesn't work for everyone. I attend a small private school and can't get free Office. Still, it doesn't really matter since four years ago I purchased a triple-license for Office 2010 Home & Student.
