What is Normal Temperature
Hi Masters,
I recently increased my Core i7 4790K to 4.8Ghz and am checking if it’s safe for extended use. The temperature seems higher than normal, which makes sense since it might get hotter. I’m unsure whether to keep using it or restore it to the default settings for future sessions.
Specifications:
- Intel Core i7-4790K @ 4.00GHz (OC 4.80GHz)
- Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 3 (rev. 1.0)
- Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 (GV-N980G1 GAMING-4GD)
- Kingston Hyperx 32GB (8x4) 1866 BUS DDR3 (KHX318C10F/8)
- CoolerMaster Silent Pro M2 1000W Power Supply
- CoolerMaster Nepton 280L CPU Cooler
Typically the CPU temperature stays between 16°C and 48°C. I’m curious about the PCH and system temperatures.
My usual activities are gaming, coding, and using FL-Studio. Is this a good or bad decision?
Best,
😀
Junaid Atari also asks about GPU overclocking. Will it affect the lifespan of CPU and GPU? Yes, a GPU will automatically reduce its speed and throttle temperature before any major issues occur. As long as you don't adjust the voltage settings, everything should be okay.
Items priced below 80c are generally reliable, but monitor your VRM temperatures when working with high-speed components.
as long as the voltage isn't too high and cooling is adequate, it should work fine
i recently sold my 2600k and it had been running at 5ghz for five years
You're asking if running the CPU at 4.80Ghz is acceptable with temperatures below 80°C. You want to know if throttling will occur and whether it's safe based on voltage and temperature guidelines.
Yes, increasing the overclocking can affect the longevity of both CPU and GPU.
