Hi
I have a Lenovo ThinkBook 16 mainboard with an i5-12500H (5B21F28620) including I/O board and cable at a low cost.
I plan to use it as a low-power home server with a 3D printed case and a large passive CPU cooler.
Currently it doesn’t start. Pressing the Power ON button on the IO-Board makes the white LED light up for a few seconds, and the battery LED blinks orange.
What components are needed for it to start? Should I connect a CMOS battery, fans, or the battery? Anyone have advice?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
If your purchased laptop lacks a short, you'll need to add storage, RAM, and connect it to a display. When the laptop doesn't have a harness or pins for a CMOS battery (since some rely on the internal battery), you'll require a battery or power brick. Did you receive an adapter with the laptop?
Also, if the laptop doesn't include a cooling assembly, that's another consideration.
I acquired a Lenovo ThinkBook 16 mainboard with an i5 12500H (5B21F28620) including I/O board and cable at a lower price.
It might be helpful to specify the SKU for your Lenovo ThinkBook 16 laptop. You could also share a link to the listing you found.

It was a fresh part directly from Lenovo priced at 25€. It should not have been missing any accessories. I received only the mainboard, without a case or battery, though it includes onboard RAM. I connected it to an external monitor and added a Windows 11 USB boot drive. There are pins for a CMOS battery, but it shouldn’t require one? I intended to power it using a 65W Lenovo USB-C power adapter. Because I lack a cooling system, I installed an older CPU cooler. I also attempted without the cooler and touched the CPU—it remains completely cool. The mainboard comes from a ThinkBook 16 G4+ IAP Laptop - Type 21CY.
