What is directX12 ... ?
DirectX 12 is a set of APIs for modern gaming, enabling advanced graphics features. The NVIDIA site mentions it’s required for newer graphics cards. With Windows 7, you may face compatibility issues unless the card supports DirectX 12. If you plan to buy a new GPU this week, check its specifications to confirm support before purchasing.
Based on the whispers I've gathered, Windows 7 falls short in supporting DirectX12, while Windows 8 and newer versions offer better compatibility. This upgrade lets creators fine-tune games and introduce additional functionalities.

DirectX refers to an API—a method that lets video games (and some other programs) access graphics hardware more quickly, essentially giving them lower-level control. DX12 is the newest iteration of DirectX, but it hasn't been released yet. It promises better performance for compatible games. Windows 7 won’t support DX12, so you won’t be able to use it with that version. In theory, any GPU supporting DirectX 11 can run DX12, though Windows 7’s lack of support means your card won’t benefit from it.
The 980 remains compatible with Windows 7, but it doesn’t support DirectX 12.
DX12 focuses on improving CPU efficiency, allowing players without top-tier processors to achieve strong performance at higher settings. The game minimizes CPU demands, ensuring smoother operation. Currently, many titles consume over 80% of the CPU while using only 50-60% of the GPU. DX12 addresses this by optimizing GPU usage and cutting unnecessary CPU overhead, delivering better graphics with a lighter workload.
