I have an old PC that could work as a Plex server. I’m considering upgrading to a used server and need advice. I want to know the advantages and disadvantages of both options. Here’s the link to the server you’re interested in: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-PowerEdge-...2ce13bff3a. Your current PC is an I7 2600k with 16GB RAM. Thanks again for your help!

I use Plex on a 4th generation i7 with 16 gigabytes of RAM. It functions smoothly. Minimal setup is needed, aside from space for your media files.

I have a situation involving a motherboard with RAM and a CPU. I need to acquire hard drives in either case, so they are ready for use. I’m worried the CPU might not handle multiple users well. Currently, there are three kids using tablets, two play stations, and several PCs and TVs with Plex—many potential users. Usage isn’t high now, but it could increase significantly later. I can run it on the PC I own, but I don’t want to set it up and then have to change it soon. I also recall an issue with the motherboard I had; I’m considering sending it for inspection and replacing it if it’s costly, but I still need to reach out to the manufacturer. Thanks again for your assistance.

Optimize your setup using the available hardware. Your passmark CPU score is 8186, which should support 4 or more trans-coded streams and even more if they're direct. You have two Dell R series servers, but they consume significantly more power and generate more noise compared to your CPU's TDP.

I own an R620 and with dual 2690s it could manage around 20 users at 1080p transcodes
