What GPU should I choose?
I agree though, because the Philippines has more than 6000 islands. The Facebook marketplace can be complicated there. But there are Amazon alternatives like Lazada, Shoppee, Temu, and TikTok Shop—much cheaper than when I lived in Great White North. My network card only costs $5, and shipping is included. I can easily get an old Radeon for a great deal, just need a model. The APU should only draw 65-100 watts, which gives me about 400 watts to use. Plus, there’s probably an HSF that draws around 5 watts.
this is what others have mentioned.
regardless of the modern GPU you install, you won't be able to run the latest games on it.
it's mainly due to your CPU being a significant bottleneck.
the ddr3 based FM2(+) apu system is outdated.
any processor that fits this socket performs worse in single-core tasks compared to i3 processors from ten years ago (i3 4130/4160).
wow no kidding.. i think the a8-7680 has four cores... i haven’t heard about hyperthreading lately. i thought all CPU makers had included that in their products. i guess even Cyrix did... if you’re that old.
yes i get it, i can’t play starfield. i’ll just look for another gaming laptop or hope keannu reeves’ ship didn’t sink on its way to the philippines.
that msi gf65 lets me play that cool space game.. star citizen. if it works, starfield probably won’t be a problem.
curious... could a ryzen 3 or ryzen 5 apu run starfield, especially with 32gb or 64gb ram?
it's a four-core processor, but that by itself isn't very significant. fx6300 was a six-core model and it matched a dual-core i3 with hyperthreading back then. in gaming performance during that time... yes, but you'd need to upgrade your whole system to either AM4 or AM5. i wouldn't consider buying an APU again if I were you. a ryan zen 5600 and b550 motherboard with two x16 gb ddr4 3600mhz cl16 memory makes a solid, budget-friendly starting point for a new gaming rig that's also relatively affordable. am5 offers better upgrade options for the future but comes with a higher overall cost.
What is your budget? In terms of GPUs, you could manage with something like an RX 580 8GB (preferably improved), and it would run smoothly. From the CPU perspective, you seem to be quite limited; you might consider upgrading the GPU first and see how it performs, but you'd probably need to replace most components for a satisfactory experience.
Honestly, with the girls' birthday approaching and the need for my own motorized vehicle, I think I can manage. I’m planning to buy a Ryzen 5 5600 series processor (just guessing about the 5600 part—it comes with APU, RAM, and motherboard). I’ll reuse my case and PSU. My budget is around 200 dollars, but I’m also trying to install a solar power system so I don’t rely on grid electricity for my PC. Right now, the UPS connected to my PC is drawing 183 watts—including the fan, modem, and all external HDDs. I have a large solar panel on my roof, rated at 320 watts, though I’m not sure if I’ll ever reach that. If I get 200 watts, that would be great. My main fix will be addressing the MPPT or SCC issue, and I also need a pure sine wave inverter from 12V DC to 220V AC because my upgraded UPS doesn’t accept modified sine wave inputs. Sorry, you can ignore that part… problems for someone living in a third-world country.
According to Google, YouTubers evaluated Starfield on AMD Athlon 3000G and Ryzen 7 5700G APUs. The review noted that the Athlon 3000G performs poorly, while the Ryzen 7 5700G offers better results. They discussed their experiences testing the game on the Steam Deck.
I'm sorry, I don't get the smudged vaseline reference... it seems a bit rough? But it does work???.. I watched the YouTube video you linked, are you kidding me? That performance is amazing—he was getting 40 fps and I already said I don’t mind 30 fps. I don’t need 200 or 1 billion fps... Dude, you don’t get it. I tried to play Baldur’s Gate 1 on a 1 speed CD-ROM player; the intro kept lagging and I couldn’t skip it. So I just let it play and went outside to play hockey... Then I got told it was a 1 speed CD-ROM when it first came out in our top computer store. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with Montreal’s Future Shop? I think it was bought off by some Ontario computer store and closed down years ago. My first GPU was a Voodoo 2 from 2000... I was actually wearing Jordan shoes. ...I understand if it’s a bit choppy, but as long as I can move the screen toward the enemies and shoot, I’m happier than a fly on... you know. So... a Ryzen 5 5600G is 16 GB enough? Or should I play it safe and get 32? My Chrome is always open with more tabs than I need...
Fair enough, I'd aim for 32gb if possible. That video used FSR which adds some delay, but it didn't seem too bad. It should work with that configuration, though it won't be the absolute best experience. Just avoid the frustration of waiting through an unskippable scene while a CD-ROM plays slowly.
