What GPU should I choose?
What GPU should I choose?
I have a single dream... to experience Starfield... the same developers behind Fallout.
My PC
OS: Windows 10 64-bit
CPU: AMD A8-8780... with one fan at the top... no additional fans... (open case)
PSU: Antec 500W META
RAM: 16GB DDR3
It only has one PCIe card (a network card)
Monitor: Chiworld 23" LCD
I wish to run Starfield... but it reports my video quality as poor...
Please avoid suggesting Nvidia... I'm not here to argue about which is superior. You can already tell which APU you're using.
I need a GPU that's not too powerful so it fits within my power setup, since I don't want to replace anything.
I've relocated to SE Asia, which might give me access to slightly more affordable options...
Also, I don't require 200 fps for smooth playback... as long as the game runs without stuttering. Years of being far from a CRT screen have made it hard for me to distinguish between 20 and 200 frames per second.
It's clear you're looking for a completely different approach. Your current setup falls short—your APU doesn't satisfy the CPU needs for Starfield, and your PSU lacks the power to support a solid GPU. This platform offers no viable upgrade options.
Starfield for PC demands specific system specifications whether purchased from the Steam or Microsoft store:
Operating System: Windows 10 version 21H1 (10.0.19043)
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700, NVIDIA GeForce 1070 Ti
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 125 GB available space
Additional Notes: SSD needed
Only the Xbox version includes a physical disc, eliminating the need for an optical drive.
Suggested upgrades:
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, Intel i5-10600K
Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti
Notably, many laptops now offer APUs capable of handling these requirements, though they come at a higher cost for those opting for portable gaming.
Well... sorry to waste all your time... lucky for me, I have an MSI GF65 ThinkUE gaming laptop. It's been lost in the mail since October last year. My problem with it is that the GPU inside is a 3060. And I'm not criticizing Nvidia... just not happy with companies that don't understand overheating issues.
I would choose a fresh setup. NVIDA offers excellent options, AMD also has strong selections.
Pay attention to your budget that satisfies the MIN standards (hopefully a bit more), and check what's available locally.
I'm unsure about the GPU approach but really enjoyed Star Trek: Birth of the Federation!
It doesn't need to be completely new, just different for you.
A second-hand market is often a solid choice. The Facebook marketplace usually offers refurbished setups, which can provide good value. Your existing setup isn't compatible with the current requirements.
but what if i want to play any game other than the ones i mentioned? i’ll go back to my original question. with a 500 watt psu, which amd gpu can i fit? i heard the newest amd gpu has replaced the latest nvidia models, like the 5090? i don’t know if i can afford or use something like a 6900 rx, but it’s still interesting. i have this pci slot just waiting to be plugged into something??
