It works perfectly for MineCraft alone or with mods. Since it's CPU-based, an i5 processor will give you great performance.

you’ll need significantly more processing power than usual for Minecraft. typically it uses around 60-70% of RAM, about 15-20% CPU, and roughly 10% GPU usage. the r7 370 works well if you have at least 8GB (preferably 16GB) of RAM and a better i3 or i5 processor.

It relies more on the CPU, but that seems acceptable. Your GT9600M with 512MB RAM and a dual-core processor handled it smoothly at 60 FPS during its peak performance a few years back.

I wasn't suggesting it required no GPU at all. Standard Minecraft will perform well at 60 FPS using Intel's built-in graphics.
