I attempted that too. I'm hoping someone has a working version of this router. It seems ZTE doesn't permit downloading firmware from their site, does it?

Does the router even offer a way to recover when the firmware fails?
Some problems with ZTE devices involve routers that use custom firmware versions provided by ISPs. The ISP controls these routers and wants to maintain a uniform firmware level to prevent users from altering it. However, they also sell similar routers or very close alternatives.
Another concern is the presence of VOIP ports on these routers. These are often locked down by ISPs due to the special configurations required, and sharing such settings would risk service theft.
From their website, they seem not very user-friendly for everyday consumers. I think they detect your country of origin and display different interfaces accordingly.

If you're inquiring about the bootloader, then yes the bootloader is unlocked, and I have the password for it. What I lack is a working firmware that I can upload. Using any other firmware would likely render the device unusable.
