A few days back I was playing normally on my custom-built machine until it suddenly crashed to a black screen and the fans sped up, though I could still hear audio. After some investigation, it seemed there was a heating problem, which is unusual given I've been using this setup for months. I don’t overclock my CPU or GPU, but I do enable XMP in the BIOS.

Here are my specifications:
CPU – Intel i9-13900k
GPU – AMD 7900 XT (previously AMD 6800 XT)
Motherboard – ASUS ROG Strix Z690-E Gaming Wifi
Power Supply – Corsair 850 W
RAM – 2x 16GB Corsair DDR5 with XMP at 6000 MHZ
CPU Cooler – 2x 140mm liquid fans
Now, after restarting after the crash, I received a no-signal message but everything was lighting up and fans were spinning except for the GPU. I’ve used my GPU intensely over the past three years, so it made sense if it was failing. I replaced it this time and everything works, but I’m still seeing a D6 error code that won’t resolve.

I’ve tried:
clearing CMOS
testing the HDMI cable
testing the monitor
cleaning and swapping RAM sticks one by one
re-seating cables.
My motherboard isn’t beeping, but everything is spinning. Anyone have any suggestions? Is my system damaged?

Have you attempted to boot without the GPU installed? Have you explored using a different PCIe slot?
