I work around 6 to 7 hours each day (retired). It appears these devices don't last more than a year without issues. Typically, buttons fail. My unit has started drifting left on the stick during gameplay. I've adjusted it, but it's not working well now. How long should they last? What's the best option available? Thanks.

I would believe several years of user activity contributed to the damage, except for the original one. I possess an "original" version (distinct from the S and later models) that was provided by a friend. He used it for a couple of years and now I do too. The versions I had before stopped functioning properly on the joystick and trigger.

I currently own one of the newer models, which I've been using for about a year or two, and it shows no problems.

I generally prefer the original ones—they integrate better and perform well with PC. The newer model requires a specific dongle from MS priced around $25, which I wasn't aware of at the time of purchase (the older models don't need it). I simply connect it directly to avoid any complications. Based on my experience, off-brand options often face pairing or functionality issues, along with noticeable quality concerns in cheaper versions.

There's no answer to how long they should last, outside that Microsoft wanting to believe they'll go at least 1 year without defect (per the warranty). And nobody as far as I know has done a reliability survey to at least have some data.
We can tell you how long ours lasts, but we all use our controllers differently.
