What does the temperature limit on hwmonitor signify?
Hi,
I’m using an Alienware area 51m r2 with a 10900k and 2080super. I installed hwmonitor to monitor temperatures, and it shows a temperature limit occasionally. I have two ideas about what this means:
- I can’t boost anymore because the thermal limits are too high for the vbios to allow.
- My VRM is overheating (though hopefully not).
Under load, the maximum temperature I reached was 68°C, even with a +100 core clock offset. Normally it stays at 63°C if all fans are running. Either way, it hits this limit of 1. The lowest safe reading is 0.
Thanks in advance!
Nobody knows anymore. The software was originally created years ago and worked well, but it wasn't designed for the changes in motherboards over time and vendor updates. As a result, what functions on one board often differ from another. I recommend using HWInfo (run it with sensors only) or Coretemp instead, as they are simpler to read and target the right addresses.
