I considered reverting to Windows 7, but decided against it. This made me reflect on what users and developers expect from the upcoming operating system—simpler software and improved performance. How do people envision the future of Microsoft's platforms?

It's believed that Windows 10 remains the final desktop operating system, with more updates expected regularly.

If they could bring boot times back to what they were with 8/8.1, I'd appreciate it. I can handle Windows 10 being a bit unreliable, but the overall slow startup times (especially when contrasted with my old desktop running on 8.1 or my laptop on 10) really bother me.

The only improvement I’d make is better scaling for high-resolution screens. While I enjoy large displays, the way Windows adjusts them often forces me to revert to a lower resolution.

Observing these reactions gives me a sense of something special, almost like having Jesus fingers. Windows stability has always been reliable for me over the last ten years. As Apple describes their operating system, it simply functions well. Generally, performance hasn't been a concern either. For my purposes, it's sufficient. I don’t think Windows 10 needs much more tweaking, since I’ve successfully installed it on an ASUS T100 tablet running a full version of Windows 8. The device handled Half-Life 2 with ease and was adequate for everyday tasks. Still, this is the only aspect I’d really want, if anything. A few apps I’ve tried didn’t perform well on a high-resolution display, but Microsoft claims most were adapting their own interface.

When I shared this feedback, my focus shifted from limited app support to the overall performance of Windows scaling. First, any adjustments require logging out—which is really frustrating. Multi-monitor scaling is problematic and leads to inconsistent issues when switching between different scaling levels. The pop-up warning about blurry apps is the most irritating part, particularly on high-resolution displays where you're trying to run lower resolutions but encounter unexpected shutdowns. Clicking "don't show again" often fails, leaving you with confusing messages that disappear before you can act. Lastly, the extra processing power needed for scaling makes everything feel sluggish compared to normal performance.

I own my primary PC running Windows 10 and a secondary "Media" PC on Windows 7. My 10 uses an SSD while the 7 relies on a standard HDD from a laptop. The 7 starts up quicker—thank you for that! You're considering moving your current setup to the 7, which makes sense.

You can completely remove everything you need. Just the essentials. No extras. A minimal setup.

The startup times for Windows 10 remain consistent. It’s likely you haven’t performed a clean installation, as it usually completes in just a few seconds when set up correctly.
