Hello, how are you? I wanted to share something today. I bought the season pass for Far Cry 4 mainly to explore Valley of the Yetis, and I got a great deal. This is my second DLC purchase ever—my first was for Bioshock Infinite to see the story ending with the burial at sea update. I’m curious about your thoughts on DLCs. Do you usually buy them? Are season passes popular among you? Which DLCs do you enjoy the most? Cheers!

Sure, I understand. I’ve already covered my costs for the game, and now you’re questioning if it’s complete.

My first piece of DLC was for borderlands 1, and my second for borderlands 2. Both were amazing and now every other piece of dlc seems pretty bad, so I buy none of them anymore.

The game is not great, but expansions work fine. Expansions are acceptable. Expandable features are the top choice.

It hinges on how DLC is categorized. I support separating online/offline experiences—main game offline, DLC online. Now you understand my point. If it lowers the base game's price for those avoiding online play, there could be benefits. It might boost sales and reduce piracy of the core game.

Back then, there were times when good DLCs were integrated into expansions like the Expansion Pack. Examples include Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos with Frozen Throne, Diablo II featuring the Lord of Destruction expansion, and Command & Conquer: General with Zero Hours. Sometimes single costumes were sold as DLCs for around $10, even though they seemed minor or disruptive.

I’ll simplify my thoughts on DLCs and expansion packs. This works when developers build a game, then later add extra content—maybe a short side quest or a few hours of new material. Once finished, they release it as a DLC or expansion, giving you fresh material that fits well with the main game. That’s acceptable because it feels like a natural extension.

However, it’s not ideal when the game is mostly done early on, and developers rush to add side quests or weapons just to fill time. They end up with low-quality content that barely adds value, and they charge extra for it. It’s frustrating because the main game is still solid, but the added stuff feels unnecessary and overpriced.

In short, DLCs make sense when the game is nearly complete, but they’re problematic when rushed or poorly executed. If I see this kind of practice before launch, I’ll stop supporting it outright.

Currently, DLC has shifted more toward quick financial gains, allowing players to obtain in-game content after purchase. EA remains the most problematic in this regard, offering season passes at nearly identical prices to the original titles. I still can't accept charging 10 dollars for the final version of Dead Space 3. Most DLC feels like it should have been included from the start, though not every DLC is flawed.

I never purchase cosmetic DLC. When a game offers a season pass, I tend to hold off until the Ultimate Edition drops at a discount on Steam.
