I don't really believe it's a joke. It's unlikely to be considered a sport, and I'm surprised it'll make the X-Games. Would you think gaming should be classified as a sport?

It depends on the rules and competition. Anything can become a game if you're willing to play at it. Even something like chair rocking could count as sport if you aim to improve over others. Competitive e-sports are definitely recognized as sports, just like other activities.

E-Sport refers to electronic gaming. It's not being called a traditional sport like football or basketball, but rather a competitive activity in the tech world. Sports involve competition and games are about rivalry—what else could you ask for?

I understand it can be played outdoors, yet it doesn't qualify as a sport at all.

A sport is described as "an activity requiring physical effort and expertise where individuals or teams compete against each other for enjoyment." Video games lack this physical component.

Video games are definitely less physically demanding than sports like hockey or football, that's clear. Yet big events around gaming continue to occur on a massive scale, with League of Legends being the biggest example. So yes, it can be considered a sport, but not in the traditional sense of football or hockey. Don't take it too seriously. Maybe they should remove Poker from ESPN because it's not very physical either.

It doesn't match the expected criteria. They don't emphasize intense physical activity. The focus is on activities people genuinely enjoy and want to improve. Personally, I see E-Sports as acceptable and even consider joining one day. I'm a strong gamer who learns quickly, plays strategically, and enjoys competition. I appreciate how others use games to beat opponents or improve speed. It requires skill and time, but it's rewarding. League isn't my thing; I prefer other genres like MMOs, FPS, and RTS.
