I experience network issues when usage drops, but they resume when more devices connect. I use an optical network with the EchoLife HG8110H modem/receiver connected via Celeron 550 board. I added a fan and thermal pad, but overheating became a problem. Temperatures often exceed safe levels (60-90°C) in closed spaces, causing failure. Half the time it stops working, and my family blames me since I’m the only one aware. What long-term solutions exist? The support team seems unreliable. Thanks in advance.

If this GPON terminal comes from your ISP, they would replace it for you. I also have a Huawei GPON terminal at home and found it getting warm. After turning off the WiFi and switching to my own router/AP, it stopped overheating. Without a thermometer, I managed to reduce the temperature by placing a large fan on top to circulate air more effectively. Unless the equipment is yours, I wouldn’t try to modify it myself, as doing so could lead to penalties for damaging their gear. It seems the room where your network devices are located is already too hot, so adding fans just moves the heat around.

The ISP has been very unreliable and there’s no alternative coverage from another provider. The box in the GPON terminal is getting black due to heat. I plan to add more fans once I replace the terminal. I feel customer service for this ISP is like dealing with an old grandma—just follow her instructions and plug the cables back in.

Consider upgrading to a more advanced support level. Reach out for their technical assistance. If they decline to help meaningfully, file a complaint with your local business office or trade authority.

Yeah there's something very wrong there, that ONT is supposed to handle up to 40C ambient temperature, it shouldn't be overheating unless its faulty.
