Setting up a PC and enjoying games on a rog AMD Advantage edition is great. I’ve had all the components ready, but I went with the B550 and now I’m curious about switching to an X570 or moving to Intel. It’s been a while since I played anything beyond Windows 2004. Do you think it matters which architecture you choose? For gaming, personal preference definitely plays a role.
I'm on B550, so far it serves me well. Plus, I hate active cooling on chipset, less thing that can fail abruptly on my PC is better. Unless they standarized the fan used for chipset cooling and there's an abundant stock being sold, most likely I will never get an active cooled board. Unless you use more than 1 Gen4 NVME, or need that much I/O. I don't think you need an X570. So, what makes you want a x570 ?
X570 offers several benefits compared to B550. It provides more IO options depending on the board design, though some B550 boards perform better in certain scenarios. The IOMMU layout is more optimized for VFIO tasks. For simple setups with a single Gen 4 SSD and GPU, B550 suffices. Generally, until you reach $250+, B550 boards outperform their priced counterparts. X570 may struggle with aggressive overclocking due to potential BCLK limitations; however, it’s not a dealbreaker for everyday use. Unless you need serious overclocking, sticking with B550 is fine. The main reason for choosing X570 was its lower price compared to similar B550 models. If you already have compatible gear, there’s no need to switch unless you’re looking for performance gains. Intel remains superior in both gaming and value, but the effort isn’t worth it unless you specifically need it.
