I think it’s a pretty unpopular idea: others have suggested buying a 10th or 11th generation CPU for this upgrade would be a mistake. Go for a 12th or 13th with a motherboard—sell your current one and CPU to recoup some money. DDR4 will still work fine. Get the retrofit kit for your cooler. A 13400 or 13500 is much better for gaming than what you currently have. The i9 chips aren’t really meant for gaming, and the i7 line is a bit of a middle ground.
