Newegg Canada offers options, but I’ll stick to numbers around 10 or 11 since you mentioned needing a retrofit for your cooler.

Canada's 11700 matches the cost of the 11700k, while the 10850k is around $385

From the options, the top choice for money is 11,700K. The 11,900K might be about 5% superior in synthetic tests, yet it performs similarly in games, so I’d pick the more affordable 11,700K.

This decision involves a tough trade-off between the 10850K and the 11700K models. The 10850K is essentially similar to the 10900K, only running at 100MHz lower out of the box. However, you have a Z490 board, so you can easily boost performance with an overclock if needed. In my opinion, I prefer the 10850K. Your Z490 won’t get PCIe Gen 4 support from the 11700K, and the single-core gains between the 10th and 11th generation aren’t impressive when you consider adding two extra cores with the 10850K.

MSI indeed backs both PCIe 4 and Gen 4 for M.2, which seems unusual since it’s known to support Z490 as well.

In this situation, the decision becomes more challenging. You won't notice significant improvements in gaming performance with Gen 4 GPUs, though a Gen 4 M.2 storage option might help during video editing tasks. Still, using a backup drive is usually preferable overall.

It wouldn't be a major issue unless you actually take the right steps and either shrink the preview or use a proxy. I don’t think it’ll become a tough problem unless you use HDR and advanced color control in 4K or better. For you, I’m curious about your target resolution, editing process, typical video size, and how much RAM you have available.

My monitor supports both 1080p and 4K resolutions, plus HDR. I’m choosing not to enable HDR since it makes the display look a bit washed out.

Additionally, my RAM is 32GB with a 3200MHz clock speed.

Yeah sounds like unmanaged. You really cant trust HDR to go automatic like in iphones really, you have to do your own color correction or finding appropriate LUTs to make the color pop. And of course mind all the overheads associated to that in previews and render, and you needing a properly callibrated 99% sRGB or better certificated monitor. More color, more fuss. If ya dont mind not going full drop in upgrades, i do agree with @Pixelfie approach here. Id go for the generational bump while you still can because Raptor Lake still supports DDR4, and at 440$ for 11900KF, thats quite a ride Intel is taking you around for. Alder Lake is quite good too if you can snipe good deals or discount codes.
