What CPU should I purchase to enhance gaming performance at ultra settings?
What CPU should I purchase to enhance gaming performance at ultra settings?
What does bottlenecking mean? Is it related to how components are used? These are my current usage stats in two games:
Mafia: The Old Country:
- CPU: 94%
- GPU: 96%
- RAM: 87%
Battlefield 4:
- CPU: 48%
- GPU: 100%
- RAM: 45%
the limitation while playing a game will focus the part being used completely, stopping the pc from improving and usually making it the gpu or cpu, with the gpu being more affected. various games and their different configurations cause either the cpu (low resolution, low settings) to become the bottleneck or the gpu (high resolution, high settings), as mentioned by others. the game's design also plays a role.
That’s not entirely accurate, at least not in a strict sense. A CPU could operate at 40% and still be the limiting factor. It all comes down to how the game is structured for multiple cores, and most titles don’t utilize more than 2-4 cores. This explains why you shouldn’t base your performance assessment solely on CPU usage. People often think because their CPU is only at 50% it’s not a problem, but it can still be. You should check both GPU and CPU utilization; if the GPU is under heavy load—like above 95%—you’re likely CPU constrained, unless the frame rate is restricted.
These are my current usage stats in two of my games, as displayed in the task manager (Performance section).
In Mafia old country:
- CPU utilisation 94%
- GPU utilisation 96%
- RAM utilisation 87%
In Battlefield 4:
- CPU utilisation 48%
- GPU utilisation 100%
- RAM utilisation 45%
If my GPU is at 100%, does that mean it's causing a bottleneck, similar to what I see in Battlefield 4? Yes?
Also, is there a general rule that 100% GPU usage indicates a bottleneck and less than 95% GPU usage means CPU bottleneck?
