What CPU should I purchase?
The discussions about the CPU seem largely unfounded; you should rely on the GPU for most operations, and the main concern is whether your CPU can handle your regular workloads.
Additionally, there are some motherboards that allow you to install two graphics cards, especially the 870 series. Is this beneficial? Do they provide any advantage? I currently have a 1660 and can I combine it with a 4070 in my new build to boost my rig's performance?
x870 supports PCIe5 and USB4 with Type C DP output. It has certain constraints, such as compatibility with the 8000G series. The device is packed with a heavy load into a light bag, featuring four NVMe slots (three of them) that share PCIe lanes and BIOS settings. Despite its limitations, it performs well in many areas. My setup includes MSI MAG x870 WiFi, and I also have an RTX4070 Ti Super. Beta testers are trying the RTX5000 series, which appears to have some initial problems.
Do you think it's better to go with the X870 or save money by choosing the 670 chipset? Also, can I add two graphics cards from the 870 series? Would that be worthwhile? I currently have a 1660 in my cabinet—can I pair it with the 4070 to boost my rig's performance?
It really depends on how you use it. Future-proofing? Just think about choosing x870 for USB4 or PBIe5, since people might recommend x670 later. Maybe because they already have one.
I began this project with an Asus X670. I returned it due to low usage and chose the x870 because it fits what I need.
SLI was great 20 years ago when video quality was poor. A single GPU from 2025 is quite powerful.
