The newest releases from these companies represent more than just improvements—they signify a move forward, designed to meet the challenges of Windows 12 and beyond.
As for my thoughts while picking a processor for the next build, I’m a casual gamer. I’m diving into AI tools like Stable Diffusion, Flux, and running LLMs on my current system, which is quite outdated. I also enjoy Digital Art software such as Photoshop, Blender, UE 5, and Daz Studio occasionally to work as a freelancer and earn extra income.
Occasionally, I edit videos using DaVinci or Filmora for my YouTube channel—yes, I believe I can also generate revenue from it! Besides that, I use my computer for professional tasks like Office apps, web development, and in my free time, I watch movies on streaming services.
My current desktop is quite old. I’m running a Ryzen 3600 with 32 GB DDR4 RAM and a Nvidia 4700 graphics card.
I’m reaching out to this community for advice on building a PC that will serve me well for the next five years. Is it too much? But what can I say—I’m not very wealthy. What I’ve learned online suggests that running future AI applications and Windows 12 TOPS will be essential for handling these demands. Please correct me if I’m mistaken, but I’m also considering the importance of NPU now.
Could you help me? I haven’t built a desktop based on Intel before—except once in 2004 with a Celeron 2.0 GHZ. After that, I bought four AMD processors: two Ryzen and two Ryzen 5. I’m open to switching back to Intel if it offers better value for my daily tasks.

Assuming where you're located, you have readily available stock of processors from either camp(AMD or Intel), I'd ask you to go towards a 9800X3D. It's a great processor for gaming and productivity. I'd avoid Intel for a a couple of generations until they're seen to be going toe to toe with AMD's offerings. My Current Desktop is Quite Old. Are you looking for a complete setup or only the CPU? Also, it's hard to guess the needs for W12 since it hasn't been revealed and the specifications aren't clear.
Budget?
The simpler choice is AMD since AM5 is expected to remain supported for another few years, allowing upgrades to the 10000, 11000, and possibly 12000 models. With Intel, you're counting on better performance, but their chipsets tend to have a much shorter lifespan.
I will store funds for a more powerful processor. Which one in the 9000 series suits you best to enjoy AI and handle your daily tasks efficiently?

Thank you for the feedback. I reviewed the pricing for chips between 9000 and 7000, and the price for 9000 chips is quite reasonable compared to the 7000 series. As a casual gamer, I believe whether the CPU has an X or not won't be a big factor. I focused on the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X 3D and the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X. I'm leaning toward the Ryzen 7 9800X 3D because its AI engine can adapt and optimize the system based on your usage patterns over time. I'm not sure if the Ryzen 7 9700X offers the same capabilities, but based on the pricing, it should significantly reduce my overall budget by at least 20%.
