During my Fortnite sessions, I occasionally experience a significant drop in frames per second, often falling between 5 and 10 fps. After installing MSI Afterburner to monitor my system, I discovered that when these dips occurred, my graphics card usage plummeted to zero percent. Could someone please clarify why this is happening and suggest potential solutions?

PC Specifications:
Asus GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
Ryzen 5 2600x
8 GB of RAM

There might be several potential causes for this. A problem with your system's random access memory is possible. Let’s gather some information: What are your computer specifications, and have you performed any memory tests? It’s also conceivable that overheating could be leading to performance slowdown. Could you please share your temperature readings? Furthermore, ensure your graphics card drivers are up to date with the newest version. Best of luck!

I recently revised my previous message. My hardware specifications are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 3GB of VRAM, a Ryzen 5 2600X processor, and 8GB of RAM running at 3000MHz.

Although I lack extensive knowledge, I experienced a comparable problem within Apex Legends. My graphics card exhibited fluctuating usage and frame rates appeared inconsistent. Here are my system specifications: a GTX 1070, 16GB of RAM running at 2400 MHz, and a Ryzen 1700X processor. After investigating, I discovered the root of these interruptions involved nearly complete standby memory when playing games. A program that automatically manages standby memory resolved the issue, and I’ve successfully operated for two hours without any noticeable frame drops. You may find a helpful tool here: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/inte...0-released

Please advise on your progress. Additionally, I suggest utilizing two 8GB RAM modules with a minimum speed of 2666MHz, as Ryzen processors perform optimally with dual RAM and faster memory speeds.

It’s disappointing to learn it wasn't beneficial. Alternatively, it’s positive news that you aren’t experiencing memory difficulties. Could you please share your internet download and upload speeds? Have you attempted to turn off all running applications, including Discord, Plays TV, Shadowplay, and Origin? Experiment with using Windows High Performance power plan, and disable Windows Game Mode as well as any other overlays (Steam, Origin, etc.).

Your graphics card’s video memory, totaling 3 Gigabytes, could be limiting your performance. You might want to reduce graphical settings, or utilize MSI Afterburner to track how much video memory is being used while playing games. If it consistently reaches its maximum capacity, consider reducing settings further or upgrading to a more powerful card—such as an RX 480/580 with 8 Gigabytes of memory, or a GTX 1060 with at least 6 Gigabytes.

My connection’s data transfer rate is four megabits per second for downloads and one megabit per second for uploads.
