What caused the Corsair RMx 850?
My computer system has been working well with a Seasonic 520W PSU. The GPU was upgraded to RX 6700 XT and then to RTX 3070 from RTX 2060. Everything was fine until I switched the power supply to a Corsair RMx 850. It kept crashing and undervolting in games, not providing enough power for the GPU. After visiting a store, a technician found the PSU was faulty and was undervolting. I got a replacement, but after a week it happened again almost exactly like before. Is this another defective power supply? What’s really going on? Could it be connected to my power outlet?
I’m planning to return the graphics card for RMA, thinking it might be the PSU, since the same issue persists even after replacing it.
This is the error reported in the Event Log each time I crash a game:

Which RM850x model are we discussing? There have been several versions. I haven’t heard any negative feedback about them. My unit is compatible with a 3080Ti and is functioning well. It might be worth inspecting the PCIe slot thoroughly, as you’ve replaced many components. You should also check the power source you’re using; dirty power can lead to problems. Consider switching to a different circuit temporarily to test if performance improves. Ensure no major appliances share the same circuit, as they could trigger the PSU into protection mode. A significant voltage fluctuation might cause this, especially if the new PSU is more sensitive than the old one. Seasonic 520W models appear to be group regulated, which would react differently under abnormal conditions. If it’s been a while, you may want to reset the operating system.
I cleaned my OS, but it still doesn't work.
I'm certain it's the PSU that struggles with spikes—it's known to be sensitive and can enter protection mode during sudden surges.
The RM850X shuts down when there are 3090 FE power spikes.
I use a 3090 FE powered by two separate PCI-E cables from the RM850X (rest of the build specs in the profile). Occasionally I run machine learning tasks that generate power spikes. The GPU can swing between about 20W and 340W. Unfortunately, these spikes cause an immediate...

What PSU should I choose to replace my Corsair RM850x? :: Hardware and Operating Systems

It's disappointing because this PSU is meant to be top-tier. That likely explains why the Seasonic 520W model didn't have such problems. The crashes only happen during demanding games.
Numerous PSUs were found unsuitable for the 30 series, encompassing many Seasonic models, even the most advanced ones. The main issue revolved around the OCP configuration. Several elements needed consideration. The remaining system's load, whether overclocking the GPUs or using stock versus custom power cables, played a role. Notably, the RM850x has multiple revisions and can be several years old. A power supply from 7 or 8 years prior might not function as effectively as one from just 1 to 2 years ago. Many recommendations suggest the RM850x for 350W cards, which is far beyond the capabilities of a 3070. If you have concerns, opt for an ATX 3.0 PSU, as power spikes are standard in its design.
Also, here are some attempts I made recently and it still crashes. I’m hoping we can pinpoint the cause.
I got a replacement for the RM850x PSU, but it still crashes. That means the PSU wasn’t the issue.
I installed my old GPU RX 6700 XT, and it’s still crashing. So it’s not the GPU?
I’m not sure anymore. It seems to be related specifically to this RM850x model and my system.
