What Call of Duty Black Ops 3 BETA usage looks like on my rig.
I play the game smoothly with FPS steady around 60 to 70. I fix stutter by setting the Paging File to 10000MB on my SSD. Edit: Used maximum settings for 1600x900 resolution and high texture quality. No change noticed between Extra and High VRAM and Paging File usage.
It's not about the processor load but the graphics card performance. If the CPU weren't limiting things, both components would run at full capacity. Also, the FX lineup is outdated and performed poorly even when it first came out, which was worse for games than the earlier Phenom II version.
According to those charts, the CPU is the main limiting factor.
This situation doesn’t quite clarify the significant drops you observed despite higher textures. Even when a CPU bottleneck existed, high frame rates were maintained, and generally increased textures didn’t heavily impact the processor. The GPU wasn’t operating at full capacity due to optimization problems and driver updates. The beta phase has ended, but with a single GPU the usage patterns remained consistent. Some menu options showed similar performance. Usage reached 100% when I turned on Ambient Occlusion—no need for further questions about that setting. I disabled it after noticing unusual delays. It wasn’t lagging, just a noticeable slowdown. The FX-8320 is quite outdated; I purchased it at launch for around $100. It might be pushing the engine to its limits at 160FPS, but that’s uncertain. I’ll share detailed usage stats once the updated drivers arrive. A CPU bottleneck shouldn’t cause frame drops or stuttering, so this behavior seems unrelated. Regardless, my 2GB of VRAM will likely run out in about two more years before I need to rebuild everything.
There were two controls for speed and smoothness. Once I adjusted them, I didn't see any changes afterward.
I can handle gtav and the Witcher @60+fps at 1600x900 with all settings at mid, but during the beta it was tough. I barely managed HD quality with low audio and no auto-adjustment, and even then it would freeze to 10 seconds or lower for a couple of seconds before jumping back up to 60. It's really frustrating. In multiplayer, these stutters happen most often when objects or effects pop up, which usually means you're dealing with enemies or in open areas while keeping an eye on everyone around. To be clear, those constant drops and FPS drops nearly cost me my gameplay 90% of the time, leading to my loss.
