The Xeon X3470 offers double the cores, threads, and cache compared to previous models. It also supports more PCIe lanes. The processor runs slightly faster at its maximum turbo speed of 3.6GHz over 3.46GHz for the i5-650.

Unless you locate a used OEM setup (like from Dell or HP) for a reasonable price, I’d skip it altogether.

Same issue with my 3930k still happening. The second generation (sandybridge) and newer CPUs remain quite useful until you push them with demanding games. However, if your focus is on around 120fps and you have sufficient cores, most older processors can manage most titles without major problems. This is particularly true when you move to higher resolutions and rely more on the GPU. For instance, gaming at 4k with a 3080ti usually only needs 100-140 fps in non-competitive games, which older CPUs can easily handle. Here’s an example: pairing a 4790k with a 3080 gives you a smooth experience until you exceed 150 FPS, which typically occurs at 1080p in tested titles. Fun fact: Older CPUs supporting Quad Channel RAM, like the 3930k, can maintain decent speeds with Dual Channel DDR4 depending on their clock speeds. Those with Quad Channel have an extra edge that helps them keep up.

I don’t run highly demanding games, but it handles PCIe devices like USB, GTX 980, and sound systems smoothly, plus it does video editing, image editing, and rendering efficiently. It seems likely I’ll keep this CPU for another five years or more.

This setup is similar to what I had with my Zotac GTX 550ti Amp. I now have one in the machine and it's running smoothly on an X470 board without any issues. The BIOS appears to be functioning correctly every time I boot it up. I purchased this new unit a while back, and it has definitely delivered value over time. It continues to operate reliably with whatever I insert it into. Since some older cards can't work with newer systems—especially those from 2010-2011—it's clear that this model is well-suited for my needs.

I already own a P7P55D which should suffice, even without knowing the exact specs compared to the Maximus III used in the first video I watched. I’ve boosted my CPU to about 4.3 and will try upgrading with a GTX 1660 Ti or RTX 2060 if I find a fair price. An older GPU like the 770 or 780 would be a huge improvement, it won’t be an issue. My main aim is to reach 60fps at 1080p in most modern games. For example, on Battlefield 4 I can comfortably play at 60fps even with lower settings. By the time I get a new monitor, I’ll likely have upgraded my whole PC for better performance. Initially, I planned to replace it with an i7-870, but after watching that comparison video, I realized newer models could handle 60fps in newer titles too.

While watching your video, you noticed all eight cores were active. Increasing the thread count definitely helps there. Of course, the actual performance boost depends on whether the game is designed for heavy multithreading. Each game title can vary in this regard.
