What are the optimal overclocking configurations for a GTX1080Ti and an I7-8700K?
I'm trying an ASROCK motherboard and exploring the settings after watching some OC videos. I noticed a "Turbo" mode mentioned in a few, so I checked if it was available. After running stress tests for about 2-3 hours while streaming YouTube, my PC froze completely. I'm curious about A) whether EZ OC also affects the GPU and B) what manual settings work best if not. P.S. This is my first time doing an OC, please be gentle.
Overclocking means pushing beyond the standard limits, making it a process of guesswork that relies heavily on the particular chip you're using. What succeeds for another system might not apply to yours. The same applies to GPUs.
EZ OC won't affect your GPU. You can attempt to restart EZ OC again and observe the OC adjustments in BIOS or HWiNFO64 on Windows. Then, manually reduce the settings slightly and tweak them individually for better results. This process may require several hours, possibly a weekend, to perfect the configuration.
As above it takes time but there is a lot of headroom in the 8700K to overclock to 4.9GHz and 5GHz through a manual overclock with a low vcore. Using MSI Afterburner will allow you to get the best out of the 1080Ti.
You should be able to find a forum for your motherboard and the 8700K and get some settings and of course learn the overclocking process. Thankfully it is not too hard with the Z370 and Z390 series motherboards...
