IntelliJ IDEA is a powerful, all-purpose development environment. It offers a balanced combination of scripting and GUI tools, along with substantial memory and disk usage when handling many large projects with extensive version control and framework integrations. Launching it opens these features automatically.

Applications can be sluggish, especially with complicated spreadsheets.
Files are straightforward. For example, a large Excel file.
Tools available include SQLServer Management Studio,
Corel VideoStudio,
and an Adobe Lightroom catalog containing hundreds or thousands of images.

One thing to consider regarding internet access.
Some applications (Corel, I'm looking at you) may be pretty aggressive in trying to contact home base.
Given a system with no internet access, it may try try try to contact the mothership before giving up and opening anyway.
This impacts "opening time".

This wouldn't be loading properly anymore, but it should still run smoothly with multiple threads. We already have plenty of information on this topic.

Also, merely starting applications might not be sufficient to observe any meaningful change.
1 second versus 0.6 seconds... although it seems quicker, will anyone really see 0.4 seconds?
Better yet, consider a process that requires some duration.
A few years back, I upgraded from an i5-3570k with 16GB RAM to an i7-4790k with 32GB RAM...
Same SATA III SSD.
I tried importing 100 RAW files from my Fuji camera into Adobe Lightroom.
According to what I remember, with the i7 it was roughly 35% faster. That duration was long enough to actually perceive some difference. A few minutes.

Another warning is that loading can be influenced by other hardware components as well. For example, if you're timing from when you start the app until a specific interactive moment (like measuring a game where controls respond), many things can occur that demand CPU activity. It could help to assess loading more broadly, taking CPU usage into account. For those interested in detailed metrics, consider bandwidth, number of requests, and disk utilization over time.

Family Tree Maker 2019 occasionally requires a few minutes to finish loading. The delay might be related to the size of the family tree, especially when it contains more than 5000 individuals or over 6000 media items.
