Hi, I’m planning to upgrade to a 3080 or even a bigger GPU soon. My current CPU runs at 8700k with up to 4.8GHz. Would I need to replace it with something like a 5900X to match the performance of a GPU for games such as RDR2 and Cyberpunk at 1440p and higher? I’ve heard RDR2 is quite demanding on the CPU, so an upgrade might help push my frame rate above 70 FPS, which I’m hoping to achieve with my current 1080Ti setup. 1440p runs smoothly on your CPU, but RDR2 is constrained by it due to outdated code and ongoing updates from Nvidia. You shouldn’t worry about your CPU performance in that scenario (a patch will help more than an upgrade). Cyberpunk will be restricted by the RTX graphics card instead of the CPU (unless you disable all ray tracing features).

It remains useful. I'll observe how it performs. I expect it to be GPU-intensive. If not, you can always improve later. You shouldn't face issues reaching over 120fps. My 3600 and 5700xt usually hit 90-100 fps at 1440p in RDR2—not all ultra options.

Consider reducing the quality even more to lessen strain on the 1080ti and observe the speed at which the 8700k handles RDR2.
